McAlpine Garden Challenge

Children throughout the school have been busy transforming safety helmets from McAlpine into hanging baskets! We are always excited to be involved in projects in our local community and were delighted to be set this challenge by the building company working to expand facilities in Southampton. The children have had lots of fun decorating the hats and choosing plants to make beautiful displays. You will be able to see them hanging at the new West Quay construction site. A big thank you to Mrs Torpey and Brian for passing on their fantastic gardening knowledge and skills and well done to all of the children who worked so hard in the sun today.

Year R worked hard on the farm!

Well done to our wonderful Year R children who behaved beautifully on our school trip to Longdown today! Thank you to the staff there who taught us all about caring for the calves, chicks, kids, goats, pigs and many more animals. Who can remember what a group of geese is called?

Butterflies

Butterflies

The Mice loved watching their classmate release the butterflies that he had been looking after into our garden. Can you find out which kind of butterflies they were?

Time to water…

Time to water...

The children in Year R have been busy recycling the rain water that has collected in our water butts, to make sure all the plants continue to grow. There are already lots of juicy strawberries appearing.

“I can hardly wait!”

We have waved off all the Year R children as they set off to Longdown Activity Farm this morning. We are sure they will have a wonderful time come rain or shine. Lucas summed up the excited mood as he left school declaring, “I can hardly wait.” We are really looking forward to hearing their news at the end of the day. Have fun children!

Myanmar water festival- Thingyan

Myanmar water festival- Thingyan

We have really enjoyed learning about the customs and traditions of the Myanmar water festival. We listened to two songs that are sung to celebrate the Burmese new year, Nandar and Thuzar loved the fact their names were in the songs! The photo shows them dancing on the stage in London during the celebrations. We loved the idea of being splashed by all the water, what a fun festival!

Walk to school

Walk to school

Here is Judith, one of our fantastic cooks who also works as a crossing patrol officer. It is great to see so many of our pupils walking to and from school, it helps reduce pollution, minimises the number of cars around the school, making it safer, gives children the opportunity to spend time in their community and has the wonderful benefit of starting the day with physical activity which we know can boost learning power, creativity and aid concentration. As well as helping to keep you fit and healthy, it’s also great fun! Please click on the photo of Judith to go to the living streets website to read Strider’s guide to pedestrian crossings. Safe walking everyone!

Gethin’s visit to The Out of Town Centre

Gethin's visit to The Out of Town Centre

“I had a lovely day. My favourite part was riding on the tractor. I made a bird from cardboard. I saw different types of chickens, two were the same. I held a rabbit and a chick. I saw some sheep. I watched a machine turn sheep wool into knitting.”
